Minerals Management Service Incident Reporting Requirements - Final rule

MMS has revised the requirements for reporting incidents associated with OCS oil and gas and sulphur operations.
The revisions clarify the requirements, and provide more precise definitions and reporting timeframes.
EFFECTIVE DATE: This regulation is effective July 17, 2006.
The new regulation addresses specific reporting criteria for the following types of incidents:
- Fatalities
- Injuries
- Loss of well control
- Fires, explosions
- Releases of hydrogen sulfide
- Collisions
- Structural damage
- Crane or personnel/material handling
- Damage to safety systems or equipment (including firefighting systems)
- Gas releases
- Personnel musters for evacuation
- Property or equipment damage greater than $25,000
Reports for oil spills or other pollutants will remain the same, under 30 CFR 254.46
