SafeGulf Training
What is SafeGulf?
SafeGulf is the basic safety training standard developed by four major offshore oil companies: BP, Shell, Chevron and ExxonMobil. All contractors who perform offshore work for these operators must:
  • Complete training in accordance with SafeGulf approved curriculum
  • Pass a 100 question test
  • Carry a SafeGulf Identification Card (these cards have no expiration date)
  • Be listed in the SafeGulf database

The course consists of the following twenty-one subjects:

  • Maritime Security
  • Offshore Orientation & Evacuation
  • Permitting
  • Drug and Alcohol
  • Bloodborne Pathogens
  • Prevention of Workplace Violence
  • Confined Space
  • Job Safety & Environmental Analysis
  • Walking/Working Surfaces
  • Back Injury Prevention
  • Marine Debris


Can I test-out instead of taking this class?
Yes! J. Connor Consulting, Inc offers test-outs. The test fee is $250 per person and a score of 90 (out of 100) is necessary for SafeGulf certification. You must meet the SafeGulf requirements for previous safety training in order to be eligible for a test-out.

How can we receive this training?
J. Connor Consulting, Inc. is an ASC Accredited SafeGulf Training Provider. Our training facility is located in Houston, Texas. We are also available to train your personnel at a location convenient to your operations.

How much does the training cost?
The training costs $250 per student when taught at our facility or a training facility provided by the client. The minimum fee for an offsite class will be $1250, which covers the tuition for up to five students. There is a $250 fee for each additional student over the five. This price does not include travel time and expenses.

How long does the training take?
The training class is approximately 8.5 hours long. At the end of the class, there will be a one-hour test. An 80% score on the test is required to receive SafeGulf certification.

Classes are taught in English. In order to participate, all students must have a verbal and written understanding of the English language. We do not supply translators.

Due to class size limitations, reservations are highly recommended. Classes start at 08:00. Please arrive 30 minutes early for registration.

Classes may be postponed due to low registration numbers. Students will be notified if this occurs.
