Reissuance of Water Discharge General Permit LAG330000
for Discharges from Oil & Gas Exploration, Development, and Production Facilities Located within Coastal Waters
Published on October 17, 2005

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) will reissue the Oil & Gas Coastal Waters General Permit (LAG330000) effective December 1, 2005. The final version of this permit can be viewed here: LAG330000

Pursuant to the LDEQ letter dated July 7, 2005, the first step in meeting the requirements that LDEQ outlined for this permit was to send written notification to LDEQ that coverage was desired under the soon-to-be reissued LAG330000 permit, which puts your company on the mailing list for important details regarding the reissued permit. By letter dated October 5, 2005, LDEQ has now notified these operators of the issuance of the LAG330000 permit effective December 1, 2005.

Operators are now required to submit a Notice of Intent (NOI) for each facility and/or independent wells, which will require coordination of as-built location data and facility diagrams as required. The renewed LAG330000 will require that specific locations, such as production facilities, along with associated wells with the facility, and/or independent wells, be issued under distinct permit numbers.

In order to extend existing coverage under the renewed LAG330000, NOIs must be submitted on or before March 1, 2006. In addition to requesting continued and new coverage under this permit, it may be beneficial to change any Final Individual LPDES Permits issued for your properties that are within the geographic Coastal Subcategory to the LAG330000 type coverage. All requests for coverage via NOI will be accepted by LDEQ prior to the December 1, 2005 issuance date, but coverage can not begin before this date.

Please advise if we can answer any questions regarding this permit transition and the appropriate LDEQ coverage requirements for your properties.
